The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is one of Nepal's most enjoyable short journeys in the Himalayas, providing the perfect mix of Himalayan scenery, traditional villages, lush forests, and the unforgettable experience of a sunrise without having to spend several weeks trekking. This 8-day package offered by Altitude Quest is ideal for tourists that would like to explore the region of Annapurna at a leisurely pace while spending some days in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

However, the main highlight of this adventure will certainly be the morning trek to the famous viewpoint at a height of 3,210 meters above sea level. The viewpoint offers the best vantage point for watching the first rays of sunlight that light up the Himalayan peaks such as Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, Nilgiri, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail).

Apart from this viewpoint, the trekking trail takes visitors along the path through rhododendron, oak and other forests of the Himalayan region. There are even parts of stone paved path, settlements of mountain people, terraced hillsides and traditional teahouses along the way. The route through Ghorepani, Tadapani, and Ghandruk gives visitors an opportunity to observe the natural and cultural landscape of the foothills of Annapurna. Ghandruk, in particular, is well-known for its Gurung ethnic group, traditional settlement and mountainous surroundings.

The trek starts off with an introduction in Kathmandu before you fly to Pokhara and then proceed by road towards Banthanti, cutting down on your time spent on the approach and giving you more time to explore the trekking trail itself. Your next destination will be Ghorepani, after which comes the sunrise trek up to Poon Hill and further along to Tadapani. The trail goes downhill from there, passing through Ghandruk, and then returning to Pokhara by road.

Some of the benefits of the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek 8 Days program are the inclusion of the city of Pokhara in the package, with a day set aside for this purpose after the completion of the trek. This means that Day 6 is set aside for a Pokhara city trip instead of rushing to Kathmandu straight away. The journey ends with a flight to Kathmandu.

Despite being described as one of the easier Himalayan trekking routes, Poon Hill cannot be seen as an easy walk, as it involves climbs up, stone staircases, forest paths, and early morning climb up to the viewpoint. Hike to the Poon Hill sunrise point typically takes 45-60 minutes from Ghorepani, and then the trekking route to Tadapani becomes quite a long trekking day.

For those who have never been in Nepal before, the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is especially great to start trekking in the Himalayas. You will see mountain views and highland landscapes but at the same time you will enjoy village life, hospitality of the locals, forest paths, and changing scenery of the Annapurna foothills. And with Altitude Quest organizing everything about your trekking, you can just enjoy walking.

No matter whether you are a beginner trekker, a couple, looking for a scenic Himalayan adventure, or a family, wanting to take a shorter Nepal trek, and even an experienced tourist, having limited time, the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a nice balance between seeing the region of Annapurna, as well as enjoying trekking in Nepal. Poon Hill sunrise, rhododendron forest, Tadapani, Ghandruk, and Pokhara – all these sights make this 8-day trek much more than just a viewpoint trip.
