This trek designed especially for climbers and adventure enthusiasts who wants to experience a unique challenge, it leads you to the heart of the Khumbu region, passing through typical Sherpa villages, Buddhist monasteries, and majestic mountain scenery, before ultimately leading to the ascent of Island Peak (Imja Tse) at 6,189 meters.

From the colorful streets of Kathmandu, the journey soon takes you to the unspoiled landscape of the Everest region. Scenic flight to Lukla begins the journey, and trekking starts through pine forest, suspension bridges, and terraced fields, ultimately ending at the colorful Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar. On the route, acclimatization stops at Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorakshep prepare you for what lies ahead in high altitude challenges, and treat you to breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and countless other Himalayan giants.

The climb of Island Peak is the ultimate test of endurance, skill, and determination. With expert leadership and pre-summit acclimatization at base camp, climbers walk on glaciers, snow ridges, and rocky ridges to the summit, with un rivaled views of the Khumbu Icefall, surrounding peaks, and broad Himalayan sweep. Aside from the climb, this trek offers cultural exposure, close-up insight into Sherpa society, and unforgettable experience at the world's most renowned high-altitude scenery.

Best Time for Island Peak Climbing with EBC Trek

The best time for doing the Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp Trek is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). The paths are lined with rhododendrons and alpine flowers in bloom, the weather is stable, and the skies are generally clear with fabulous views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and nearby peaks. Autumn brings fresh air, post-monsoon clarity, and excellent visibility, making it ideal for high-altitude treks and climbs. While winter provides extremely cold conditions and heavy snowfall, and monsoon season can make trails slippery with too much frequency of flight cancellations, spring and autumn provide the safest and most rewarding conditions for both treks and summits of Island Peak.

    Travel Insurance (Compulsory)

All trekker and climber members must have full travel insurance. This must cover high-altitude trekking and climbing to 6,200 m, emergency evacuation, helicopter rescue, hospitalization, and trip cancellation. Trekkers will be required to produce evidence of insurance before the trek. Make sure that your policy covers trekking and climbing in Nepal's remote and high-altitude areas.

    Altitude and Acclimatization

The trek and climb to Island Peak exceed 6,000 meters, and therefore acclimatization is to be done carefully. Rest and acclimatization days have been scheduled at Namche Bazaar, Dingboche, and Chhukung. The symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) are headache, nausea, dizziness, and shortness of breath. Trekkers must follow guides' rules, go up slowly, hydrate thoroughly, and report symptoms immediately.

Choices for Climbing Gear and Equipment

Island Peak ascenders need technical gear, including harness, crampons, helmet, ice axe, climbing rope, and carabiners. Essential trekking gear includes layering clothing, waterproof jackets, sleeping bags, trekking boots, gloves, sun hat, sunglasses, and trekking poles. The equipment may be rented at Kathmandu or Lukla if needed.

    Drinking Water

Boiled or bottled water can be found in most tea houses. Trekkers are advised to bring a refillable water bottle and purify water with purification tablets or filters. Proper hydration is very important at high altitudes to minimize the chances of getting AMS.

    Toilets and Showers

Most lodges offer western or squat toilets. Hot showers are present in lower villages at a nominal cost; in high-altitude villages and base camps, the facilities are negligible. Bringing biodegradable wet wipes and personal hygiene items along is advisable.

    Mobile Network & Connectivity

Cell phone signals reach lower villages such as Namche Bazaar and Lukla. Network signals may not be available at higher-altitude locations such as Island Peak Base Camp and Gorakshep. There is slow Wi-Fi in some lodges at a small fee. Satellite phones can be rented in an emergency situation.

    Food on the Trail

Tea houses also offer Nepali and continental foods like dal bhat, noodles, soups, fried rice, pancakes, and momos. Vegetarian and vegan food arrangements can be made. Trekkers are advised to carry energy bars, nuts, and dry fruits on long trek or climb days.

    Responsible Trekking & Climbing

Trekkers are advised to adopt environmentally friendly practices:

    • Use refillable bottles; do not use single-use plastics.
    • Be mindful of local customs, dress conservatively, and seek permission before photographing people.
    • Dispose of trash in an appropriate manner or take it away to bigger towns.
    • Support local economies by purchasing crafts that are locally made.

    Tipping Guidelines

    Tipping is customary in Nepal:

    • Guides: USD 10–15 daily for each guide
    • Climbing Sherpas: USD 10–15 daily for each Sherpa
    • Porters: USD 5–10 daily per porter

Tips are usually shared and divided among staff; good service may justify additional tips.

    Health & Safety Precautions

Keep a personal first-aid kit with medicines, painkillers, and altitude sickness meds. Stay with guides when glacier walking, river crossings, and climbing Island Peak. Do not climb or trek alone at high altitude.

    Permits & Paperwork

    Permits for this trek are:

    • Sagarmatha National Park Permit (SNP)
    • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit
    • Island Peak Climbing Permit

All these permits will be arranged by Altitude Quest prior to departure.

    • Wear respectfully in monasteries and villages
    • Be respectful and keep quiet in monasteries and villages
    • Be polite during religious ceremonies and festivals
